Sample Section 2
Heading Advice to a Course
After selecting a VOR course with the OBS knob, the CDI needle deflects to show heading advice
to intercept the course. If you turn the airplane to a heading on the same side as the deflected CDI
needle, the aircraft will move toward the desired course.
In this example, the
CDI needle indicates
that heading generally
north will take the
aircraft to the selected
outbound course.
In this example, the CDI
needle indicates that
heading northeast will
take the aircraft to the
selected inbound
course.
Tips and Tricks
SAME SIDE SAFE
Headings that are on the SAME SIDE as
the needle will SAFELY return you to the
selected course.
Avoid thinking of the needle deflection in
terms of left and right, or you can get into trouble.
Instead, determine a heading to get you back
on course, then turn toward that heading
